Susan was adopted at one month of age in the United States. Because of her very personal relationship with adoption, her heart has always been open to the idea of adopting a child. For years, Susan would ask Dave if they could adopt, but he was resistant to the idea. We had two biological sons, but had a desire to have additional children. Efforts were unsuccessful and finally after a devastating miscarriage eight years ago, Dave started softening to the idea of adoption. It was around Dave’s birthday in 2010 that Dave heard God’s call on his life that we were supposed to adopt. God revealed to Dave that we ourselves have been adopted into God’s family. (Ephesians 1:5a He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ in accordance with his pleasure and will...) God showed Dave several examples of His Grace to us and because of this revelation, Dave got a glimpse of our calling to adopt, just as God has adopted us. The course was clear from that point forward. (James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after ORPHANS and widows in their distress...)
Through the weaving of the adoption maze, God directed us to the country of India. He had just the right daughter picked out for us and it was just a matter of us being obedient to His leading. Through long waits, paperwork mix-ups, etc. God made the timing of the paperwork match up perfectly so we would get a referral for a little girl named Nikita. We had to review the referral to see if we would accept Nikita as our own. We had put in for a child with a medical need. When we saw on the forms that her medical need was that she had a hole in her HEART, we knew without a doubt, that Nikita was supposed to be ours. We knew this because eight years ago when Susan had a traumatic miscarriage, the doctors checked her HEART and found out that Susan had a hole in her HEART! Susan was born with it, but it was never detected until the miscarriage.
God has matched up two adopted girls with holes in their HEARTS! It’s a match that only God could do! After a very long wait of over 2 years, we are eager to bring Nikita home to her forever family hopefully in January! May GOD be given the GLORY!
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your HEART. (Psalm 37:4)
